On Saturday 7th March, the Brooks family celebrated 40 years in business with a first-class event at the Crown Grand Ballroom, Perth.

After pre-dinner drinks in the foyer, the doors swung open to a stunning visual and audio display as Cher 'Turned Back Time' while the guests found their seats. Comedian, Vince Sorrenti was the MC for the evening and soon had everyone in stitches with a combination of his renowned style of Aussie / Italian humour.

With the crowd in good spirits, and the drinks flowing freely, Doug Brooks was invited to the stage where he enthralled the audience of nearly 700 people with his story of how Brooks Hire began. In his early days as a long-haired youth with no business experience but plenty of ambition, Doug scrounged together every dollar he had, to purchase two disassembled compressors, with the remainder of the bill being settled by bankcard. At that time, he was working for WAPET on Barrow Island. Four months later, Doug started running his hire business out of a shed in Eneabba, working 18 hour days, and then traveling to Perth every weekend to pick up parts. What started out as 2 compressors, soon turned into 12 pumps on hire, then an 8T crane was purchased which he drove to Eneabba himself as he couldn’t afford the transport costs. Through sheer hard work and determination, Doug managed to slowly grow his business into the success it is today, with over 5000 pieces of hire equipment and 18 branches nation wide.

The guests were then treated to another spectacular song and dance show by Annie Lennox while the main course was being served. Following mains came the famous Brooks Hire 'Harley Davidson Draw', which was conducted by Andy Graham, CEO of the Civil Contractors Federation of WA, and won by NRW Mining Contractors. The prize was graciously accepted by Jules Pemberton, CEO of NRW, who announced that the company would be donating the motorcycle to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The evening then kicked on to the rock beat of Daren Reid and The Soul City Groove who had everyone on the dance floor until midnight. It was a fantastic night, celebrating a momentous milestone, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
